A holiday in the USA is something that many can only dream of! The cost of flying there is astronomical – especially in the school holidays. Once you get there, you have to have money for accommodation, food and entertainment. Should this put you off? Absolutely not!
The USA is fairly littered with amazing places to stay – and there’s something to suit every pocket. I’ve travelled around the USA a fair amount, although admittedly mainly in Orlando, New York and Los Angeles. If you can afford a Hotel like the Hyatt, the Hylton or the range of Disney accommodation, you’ll get the works – Swimming pools, spas, King sized beds, Double Glazing and Mini-bars. But you don’t have to splash out. A good package tour from the UK to America can prove affordable and allow you to stay in 3 or 4 star accommodation.
I recently stayed in what was called a “Boutique Hotel” in New York. It was priced at around £50 a night (room only) and was a stone’s throw from all the excitements of Times Square. Although it had a view of an office and its entire staff, we were rarely there, except to sleep and it was more than satisfactory – clean and welcoming.
On the whole at most hotels the choice is Standard Room, Deluxe room and The Suite. If you run an eye over the choices at a Holiday Inn, for example, you might be shocked at the prices – but remember they’ll be in dollars – it’s not so bad once you’ve worked out the price in good old “Pounds and pence”.
